YANIGASAWA ARTIST STENCIL SOPRANO
SAXOPHONE 1975
Yanigasawa made stencils
for other companies before they became justly famous in their own
right, especially for their sopranos. This, their first soprano (S-6), was based
very closely on the Selmer Mk VI design.
This is a typical
example made wearing the badge "Artist". It was a successful buy from
e-bay, arriving safely from California. I'm sure the latest Yanis must
be superior, but this has all one could want from a straight soprano
at what was a bargain price. In fact I've compared it directly with a
vintage 1927 Buescher TT (so I sold it), which it excels in sound, and
a Mk VI, from which it is hard to distinguish tonally.
I use it with a Morgan
Vintage 5 mouthpiece and Consoli Ramplig ligature, and Vandoren V16
2 reeds.
