MARLIN CUSTOMISED BASS c1994
People kept on telling
me I ought to use a proper bass on recordings rather than a synth. So
eventually Alvin Davies told me he had an old black Marlin precision
copy which he'd set up for B-E-A-D tuning for the previous owner,
before she bought a 5-string.
Resprayed in tasteful
two-tone metallic green it's quite attractive now, and despite its
humble origins has a socking P-bass sound from the neck pick-up, as
well as some more "Music Man" type sounds if you switch to the bridge humbucker.
More recently, the old neck being
beyond adjustment, I bought a handsome replacement maple neck, and
have restored the bass to standard E-A-D-G stringing.
